IN THESE MEETINGS ALL THE DECISIONS PERTINENT TO OUR LIFE IN THIS UNIVERSITY ARE MADE. WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE AND TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE THROUGH THESE MEETINGS, NOT TO MENTION AN IMPOTANT ACTIVITY TO PUT IN OUR RESUMES. WE HOPE YOU ARE INTERESTED AND CAN PARTICIPATE.
GSS positions
Campus Center/ Student Union Commission: A joint committee with the undergraduate SGA, this body oversees and has the authority over space allocation, scheduling policies, and virtually everything that goes on in the CC/SU Complex.(1 seat available)
Finance Committee: The Constitutionally-mandated committee of GSS which oversees its finances; responsibilities include reviewing and approving of Ad-Hoc and Revenue Sharing funding proposals, and determining the whole GSS budget in the spring. (1 seat available)
The Voice Editorial Board: The mission of The Voice Editorial Board is to ensure the relevance of the newspaper to the student body; to establish a publishing schedule in partnership with the Editor; to represent the views of the student body in the content of the newspaper; to perform editing tasks as needed; and to procure the distribution of the published newspaper. Graduate Council-Statute of Limitations: Dean Mullin, of the Graduate School, is pushing for a graduate-wide policy regarding statute of limitations, which will be determined by this committee. (2 seats available)
Graduate Council-Student Affairs: This Council serves as the official and first body concerns of Graduate Student life should be brought. (1 seat available)
Student Legal Services Advisory Board: This board has programmatic and fiscal oversight over the Student Legal Services Office (SLSO). SLSO is the largest single expenditure of GSS, and therefore the challenge this year is to hold the office accountable and ensure that GSS' funding is appropriately spent. (1 seat available)
Faculty Senate Councils
Academic Matters Council: Develops policy recommendations on academic and curricular life on campus, examines proposal for majors and minors, reviews undergraduate course proposals and makes recommendations to the Senate. (1 seat available)
General Education Council: Reviews proposals on general education curriculum required of all undergraduate students, reviews courses proposed for General Education designations, advises the administration and curriculum committees on general education. (2 seats available, for TA's)
Graduate Council: Advises the Graduate School on the Administration of graduate programs, develops policy recommendations on graduate studies, reviews proposals for graduate programs and graduate course proposals. (3 seats available)
Health Council: Proposes policy on health programs, health education programs and health needs of the campus and advises administrators on the operation of health-related programs. (1 seat available)
Research Council: Works to advance the research mission of the University, advises the administration on RTF expenditures and reviews and makes recommendations on research and scholarship oriented grants and awards.
Status of Minorities Council: Makes recommendations affecting the status of minorities on campus, in areas such as recruitment, promotion and salaries, tenure, admissions, financial aid and the development of programs to reflect the needs of the minority community. (1 seat available)
University Advancement Council: Represents the faculty in the development of policy relating to institutional advancement. (1 seat available)
Faculty Senate Committees
Campus Physical Planning Committee: Recommends priorities for proposed physical projects and acts as a project review board for physical planning and design projects. (1 seat available)
Service Departments Committee: Recommends policies to improve campus services such as photographic support for research and teaching, duplication services, telephone services, campus mail, state cars, and the security, maintenance and refurbishing of buildings. (1 seat available)
University Computer and Electronic Communications Committee: Recommends policies designed to meet the educational and administrative information technology needs of the campus. (1 seat available)
University Press Committee: Recommends policies concerning the administration and operation of the Press, controls the imprint of the Press, approves all of its publications, and recommends policies on the funding of press activities. (1 seat available)
